News: Oooooh! 'Evil' sequels everywhere

nndb.com
Raimi makes everyone's day

The “Evil Dead” remake is right around the corner and the horror world is holding its breath in a sickly mix of fear and anticipation. Will it be good? Will it suck horribly? Is there even the slightest chance of a Bruce Campbell cameo?
So many questions, but no answers until one month from today, April 5 of this year. Until then. We wait.
Well, we wait and we get this news from BleedingCool.
While pimping his latest effort, “Oz: The Great and Powerful” in London, original “Evil Dead” director Sam Raimi dropped a bombshell.
He wants to make “Evil Dead 4.” Not a remake, reboot or reimagining. An honest-to-God American sequel. Or four-ple.
He added that he and his brother (most likely Ivan) plan on working on the script … wait for it … this summer!
This isn’t some idle pillow talk from Raimi. This sounds like a frigging plan!
Just wonderful news. So even if the remake ends up as a massive disaster, there’s a potential sequel to the original franchise looming on the horizon, just waiting to make everything OK.
God speed Raimi brothers. Make it so!

Is the sun setting on 'Resident Evil'?
And then there’s this sequel news. Not as exciting, or really at all exciting, but you know. It’s a thing.
There’s more “Resident Evil” a-coming. Well, at least one more.
Sony has greenlit “Resident Evil 6” and given it a release date of September 12, 2014.
No confirmation yet on whether the bad Paul Anderson will be back to direct, or if his lovely wife Mila Jovovich will return for part six, but duh. They’ll be there.
After part four came out, Anderson did lots of talking about how he was starting up a new trilogy of films, meaning this one could very well be the last of the Anderson/Jovovich “Resident Evil” film series.
So yeah. Grab some tissues and such. It’s so hard … to say goodbye … to yesterday.
I’m strongly, strongly considering a “Resident Evil” week or marathon or something where I watch all five of these movies. Well, really, I don’t think the first one belongs on The Cheese List. That’s a good movie. Part two sucks and I haven’t seen the rest.
                I’ll keep you posted.

News: 'Evil Dead' is on the move

January is known as a fabled breeding ground for awful movies. While theaters may be packed to the gills with ’em, news outlets are pretty bare.
But, by god I promised daily updates and that’s just what I’m going to do.
Yesterday we talked about the nonsense-looking “Robocop” remake and judged the crap out of it even though it’s still well over a year away from stumbling drunkenly into theaters. Good times.
So let’s keep that remake train a-rolling today and talk about another remake of a classic gore-fest, “The Evil Dead.”
Now “Evil Dead ...” well, I’m not sure what to make of this thing. The trailers are insanely brutally violent, which is promising and true to the spirit of the original. But remakes are tough and they rarely work better than the thing they’re redoing. Also, the new one has to top Bruce Campbell, which is damn near impossible.
The potential for disaster is strong with this one.
Anyway, the powers that be in Hollywood started shuffling movies around and low and behold “The Evil Dead” remake has itself a brand new release date --- a full week earlier!

That’s right, now we can all watch demons mutilate themselves on the big screen on April 5th! Going to be a busy weekend for yours truly as the “Jurassic Park” 3-D re-release also hits screens that day and I love me some dinosaurs.
So there you go. It’s not much, but it’s news.

News: ‘Evil Dead’ gets a leading lady!

twitter.com

Well sports fans, it looks like “The Evil Dead” remake has found itself a leading lady: Lily Collins.
Who the hell is Lily Collins? Apparently she’s been making the crappy movie rounds lately: she was in that awful-looking Paul Bettany movie “Priest” and she was in that awful-looking Taylor Lautner movie “ABduction.”
Next she can be seen in the Julie Roberts Snow White thing “Mirror Mirror.” Not by me, but I guess someone will see it.
Anyway, BloodyDisgusting.com has said she’s playing “basically the new Ash.” THE NEW ASH! I assume by that, they mean she’s going to be the main character and get stuck fending off demons. Whether or not she’ll be able to wield chainsaws and one-liners, well that remains to be seen.
Fingers crossed this isn’t a disaster.

News: Remakes galore!!

'Evil Dead' gets a date
Wikipedia.org
It’s official: “The Evil Dead” remake really, really is happening because has a release date.
And by god, once a movie has a release date, there’s just no going back on that. It’s a sacred, unbreakable bond between studios and the movie going public that allows them to exist. Unless you’re Dimension Films, producers of “Piranha 3DD,” in which case anything goes.
                John Q. Public be damned.
The big day is… here you’d be hearing a drum roll if I had one saved on my computer, I don’t… April 12, 2013.
I’d be more excited, except for that whole Mayan thing… so… yeah.
If we’re all still around in 2013, I’ll give this movie a chance. After all, the pedigree is there: original creators Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are all involved. Every now and again a remake comes along that doesn’t suck. This could be one of them.

And then there’s this one

Do we REALLY need an “American Psycho” remake? Blah.
The massively controversial film starring Christian Bale, based off the even more controversial book by Brett Easton Ellis is getting a remake of its very own.
You know how we talked about the pedigree of the “Evil Dead” remake and its legacy being in good hands? Well, I’m not sure the same can be said about “American Psycho.”
The script is being written by the director of the Academy Award winning film “The Social Network.” Whoops! Make that the second-unit director, Noble Jones. You know, the guy who shoots a bunch of scenery and extras and such?
Yeah, I’ve got no interest in this. Plus, who’s going to fill Bale’s shoes? The guy’s Batman AND Jesus.

News: 'Evil Dead' remake, 'Godzilla' sequel + fun with numbers and pirates!

The Chin talks ‘Dead’ remake

nerdreactor.com
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Bruce Campbell. Author. Actor. Director. Humanitarian. Cologne pitchman. Conqueror of demons.
Campbell’s chiseled jawline undoubtedly graces the Mount Rushmore of cheesy cinema. The star of such films as “The Man with the Screaming Brain,” “My Name is Bruce,” “Mindwarp” and of course, the “Evil Dead” trilogy sat down with the TV Guide Channel to talk about his hit show “Burn Notice.”
However, near the end of the interview, Campbell dispensed a few pearls about the upcoming and highly controversial “Evil Dead” remake.
Among the highlights: Campbell confirmed there would be no Ash in the new film, because he didn’t want a young actor to face direct comparisons to his old role.
Horror fans, amazingly, can be a cruel and thoughtless breed, after all. My words not his.
Anyway, follow the link below because Bruce is always a delight.

See ‘11-11-11’ at 12:01 a.m.!

That’s right kiddies, director Darren Lynn Bousman’s religious/horror/math flick is opening in select theaters for exclusive midnight shows!
Personally, I would have gone the extra mile and not opened the movie until precisely 11:11, either a.m. or p.m. I don’t care which, on 11-11-11. But hey, that’s just me. I happen to think if you’re going to do something, you might as well do it right.
For a complete list of participating theaters, please click right… here.
Or, if you don’t feel like driving to the closest theater in the middle of the night, you can always check out the pirated working print of the film which leaked online recently.
Bousman talked with Arrow, of ArrowInTheHead.com, about the leak and confirmed, among other things, the director’s own sister had watched the leaked print. I guess even she wasn’t confident enough in this movie to shell out $12 for it.
Check out the whole interview here.
Bousman seems like a standup guy and I wish him all the best. He’s got an OK track record what with some of the “Saw” films and all. This movie just seems too gimmicky for me.

Godzilla scores new writer… again

Boy, the latest “Godzilla” movie is tearing through writers like a giant mutated, fire-breathing lizard tears through downtown Tokyo.
Never a good sign. It’s a shame because I love me some Godzilla. Well, not love, but strongly like occasionally.
So far screenwriters David Callahan (“Doom,” “The Expendables”) and David S. Goyer (“Batman Begins,” “Blade” trilogy) have both tried their hands at bringing the big green guy back to life and both have apparently failed.
Next up to the plate: Max Borenstein.
Who is Max Borenstein? Well, his IMDB page is pretty scarce. Seems he wrote, directed and starred in something called “Sword Swallowers and Thin Men,” way back in 2003. Since then, not much.
So Goyer, the guy with a “Story By” credit on “The Dark Knight,” couldn’t put Godzilla together again, but this Borenstein fellow can? Only time…
